NCPTT’s Cultural Diversity Intern, Candida D’Avanzo, is studying African American burial traditions in the Cane River region. Her work will help better understand the influences of African and Christian traditions and how they may affect the preservation of traditionally black cemeteries. She has conducted 15 oral history interviews to date and is gathering a wide variety of information for the project. She will present the results of her efforts in Washington, DC as part of the NPS Cultural Diversity Program on August 6, 2008.
