SUMMARY:Preservation Institute: Nantucket 2013
DESCRIPTION:Preservation Institute: Nantucket (PI:N) is an interdisciplinary program that exposes participants to the theories and methodologies of international cultural heritage conservation and the research\, documentation\, and management of current and potential World Heritage sites. Nantucket and its historic and natural environments serve as a learning laboratory.  After 40 years of working with local partners to document and preserve the island’s built environment\, the University of Florida and PI:N is leading an effort to nominate the cultural and natural resources of Nantucket to the World Heritage List.  The work of PI:N contributes to this effort.  This summer\, PI:N launches a new initiative which offers students access to 3D laser scanning technology as part of an island-wide\, comprehensive historic resources documentation project. Download PDF for additional details.[download id="279"]    2013 Summer Program     Schedule:            June 3 to July 24\, 2013    Fee:         $5\,750 including 9-credit hours of graduate coursework or Continuing Education Units (CEUs)\, accommodations\, laboratory materials and supplies\, and field trips. Participants are responsible for travel to and from Nantucket and meals.     Scholarships:     UF students and South Florida residents can apply for a $5\,000 or $3\,000 preservation scholarship for PI:N sponsored by The Villagers\, a preservation support organization located in Coral Gables\, Florida.  Applications are due on Friday\, March 30\, 2012.     Application:       Please download PDF.     Deadline:            Applications are due on or before Friday\, March 15\, 2013.

Come join us this summer and be your own scientific sleuth to learn about the culture of early inhabitants of Natchitoches through the pottery shards they left behind. NCPTT is offering a one-day workshop on July 30\, 2013 called “Conservation Scientist for a Day.” You’ll have a chance to study authentic pottery through documentation\, microscopy\, chemical spot tests\, X-ray Fluorescence analysis and more!!! NCPTT instructors will guide you through a series of experiments to learn the science behind the history.    Who: This one day event is offered on July 30\, 2013 to students who have finished 8th grade through Seniors in high school.

SUMMARY:International Cemetery Preservation Summit
DESCRIPTION:NCPTT\, in partnership with the Canadian Ministry of Culture\, will host a two and a half day conference in Niagara Falls\, NY-Ontario\, Canada\, October 8-10\, 2013. The conference will include oral presentations\, posters\, and a half-day field session on the conservation of all aspects of cemetery care and conservation. The conference is open to conservation professionals\, cemetery managers\, board members\, archaeologist\, grounds keepers\, and all who work in and are interested in cemeteries.
