When you think  National Park Service you think one of two things: amazing natural wonders or old stuff,  be it buildings or battlefields. Let’s focus on the latter  for a while, the old stuff.  Because that’s where facilities maintenance really meshes with the mission of the NPS.  Think about it. We’re here to keep our buildings in good shape and keep open the roads and trails to get people to the attractions, and yet we’re also here to preserve the park’s cultural resources and a lot of times our facilities ARE cultural resources (think Parkitecture of the  great western parks) or they may become cultural resources (hello, Mission 66).

If you want to learn more about the history and academic side of historic preservation check out the website for the Cultural Resources Career Field.  Otherwise follow these links to learn more about different aspects of Historic Preservation.
