This class was originally aired as a broadcast in 2006 by the National Park Service’s TEL Network. It course consists of a 1-hour video coupled with reading and reference materials. You will need to view all three during the workshop so look to them before you select Play.

  2. The “Facility Management Workforce Development Guide”
  3. The “Facility Manager Job Competencies Report”

The Workforce Development Process outlines a self-initiated improvement program in which individuals have control over their own professional development. The purpose of the Workforce Development Guide is to accomplish the following:

  • To advance the profession of facility management through education and training, focusing on continual, self initiated learning that is coupled with NPS facility manager competencies
  • To help users identify and access training resources that will assist them in meeting their professional development goals
  • To develop an individual development plan (IDP) that will identify the level of professional growth required or desired
  • To guide individuals interested in pursuing a career in facility management toward training opportunities needed to transition into the profession.

Course Materials:

Before you can access the course material, you must register for this course by pressing the ENROLL button (in the upper right corner of the Details screen). Once you have enrolled, you will be able to immediately access the course materials and view the video. You will also be required to complete a test, passing grade is 80%. After viewing the video and completing exercises in the Participant Guide, learners can take the assessment by returning to DOI Learn, clicking on My Elective Learning, History, and select this course.

Staff who carry — or aspire to carry — facility management responsibilities in a park area (including chiefs of maintenance, administrative officers, chiefs of operation and wage grade employees charged with the responsibility) and their supervisors.
