NCPTT Staff Receives Leica Training
On March 13, 2013 Leica trainer Walker Agnew of McBain Systems, Irving, TX presented to the NCPTT staff. Agnew presented to staff from the Materials Conservation, Architecture and Engineering, and Archeology and Collections divisions of NCPTT. Staff were trained on the use of the Leica DM750P microscope, ICC50 HD digital microscope camera, and Leica capture software. NCPTT recently purchased 10 Leica DM750P, polarized microscopes for use in trainings such as the Petrographic Analysis for Conservation and Paint Analysis for Historic Buildings Workshop. The advantage of a polarizing microscope with such trainings is that under transmitted polarized light, thin sections of ceramics, minerals, masonry, pigments and other materials important in cultural heritage can be identified, described, and classified.
