GIS Interns

Description of the Work:
The National Park Service is interested in hiring two interns to perform data input into
a Geographic Information System (GIS). The interns will be working with the records
of two NPS cultural resource databases: the Cultural Landscapes Inventory (CLI) and
the List of Classified Structures (LCS) spatial coordinates will be recorded and then
transferred to the GIS. The interns will also complete the metadata for each record in the
GIS and create links between the GIS and the CLI and LCS databases.

Salary:
The interns will receive an hourly salary of $18.59.

Length of employment:
Two interns will be employed for approximately one year.

Location of employment:
Interns will use the facilities of the National Center for Preservation Technology and
Training located on the Northwestern State University campus, in Natchitoches, LA.

Training:
Interns will be trained in using the CLI and LCS, GIS, the NPS Cultural Resource Spatial
Data Transfer Standards, metadata compilation, and QAQC procedures.

Qualifications:
• Familiarity with GIS, desirable
• Experience using databases, Excel, Google Earth, Bing, or ArcExplorer
• Interest in historic preservation
