Kirk Cordell was named NCPTT’s Executive Director in July of 2002. A 30 year veteran of the National Park Service, he served as the Chief of Park Cultural Resources programs in the Southeast Region prior to coming to the National Center. He has served in the Park Service's SHPO Program Review and Preservation Tax Incentives programs and in a variety of management roles in the Southeast Region, including Associate Field Director for Resources Management and Chief of Cultural Resources Planning. Prior to coming to NPS, he served as an architectural historian for the Louisiana SHPO. A native of Richmond, Virginia, Cordell was an Echols Scholar at the University of Virginia, where he received a bachelor’s degree in architectural history, followed by graduate work in architectural history and preservation planning at Cornell University.
