Since 2005, NCPTT has aggregated emergency preparedness and response information for collectors, museum professionals, cultural resource managers, building and maintenance crews, and others who care for cultural heritage. Several staff members have participated in details with FEMA to assist with disaster response. After Hurricane Katrina a collaborative effort was spear headed by our office to create documentation forms that accounted for historic properties and materials. We are now creating digital versions of these forms to make surveying after a disaster faster and easily organized. These resources have been assembled to help people mitigate risks to cultural resources when faced with a disaster. Whether you need to prepare for a disaster, mitigate damage after a disaster, or seek the assistance of a conservator, these resources can help your institution with preparation and recovery efforts.
Preparation is your best defense.
