Benchmark Essential Questions - The following sample benchmark (Tiananmen Square) illustrates the use of the benchmark to generate an "Essential Question" that can be addressed in each of the academic classrooms in light of the topics being covered. The Essential Question helps to underscore the relevence of the academic topics to answering larger questions the student will ask or be asked in life. The Essential Question helps the students to use the knowledge they have attained across the curriculum to understand the question being asked and to answer it through the development & exercise of their critical thinking skills.
